I was a rather morbid child. Whereas most kids where scared to tears by "The Exorcist", I was fascinated. Much to my parents' relief, the doctors said "there's nothing wrong with the kid". So, rather than loading me up with antidepressants, they chose to nail a cross over my bed and support my interests. At 12 years old, I idolized makeup effects artist Tom Savini. I had converted my parents' garage into a gore factory complete with zombies and severed limbs. My motto was "squibs are not for kids, but watch this."
Within a few years, I had exchanged the garage workshop for a computer desktop. By the time I reached high school, I was a complete AV geek. That's where I cut my teeth on video production, linear and non-linear editing. During the week, I produced instructional videos for the other students and PSAs for a local TV station. On the weekends, I borrowed the school's projector and VJ'd for raves and local parties.
I enrolled at the Academy of Art where I got a proper education in all aspects of film production. I decided to combine my interests and focused on post production, visual effects, and compositing.
After graduating, I landed a gig as an assistant at Ntropic where I put my Discreet Flame training to work. I then moved on to Core Studio. Under the tutelage of Gary Jaeger, I learned the power of After Effects and the desktop post-production pipeline.
I have since been a freelance artist, relying on my online knowledge and After Effects experience to finish high-end projects on a modest budget.
Reroot is a truly exciting endeavor. Collaboration is the key. I'm looking forward to more art directing and putting concepts before creation.
